Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
